Earlier this month, I checked out the world famous (well, DC famous but it’s awesome enough to be WORLD famous) BloomBars in the Columbia Heights neighborhood in DC. It was actually my first time there but I’ve heard so many good things about the place as far as entertainment and about how they support community through art unity. Meaning, uniting YOU with art.
I was only there for a short time and didn’t get to talk to the owner in great detail. Kevin Sandbloom (@kevinsandbloom), the one-man show, was on his Soul Troubadour tour and I didn’t want to miss it. He incorporates vocal sounds as beats while singing, story telling and reciting poetry. His influences are basically every great musician known to man.
The pictures: I wanted to get some artsy shots of Kevin. Let me know what you think. Did it work? I like the black and white vignette style as it makes a good representation of the vibe of BloomBars as well as compliments Kevin’s style… at least in my opinion.
Support Kevin and his 9 albums and if you’re in the DC area, go check out a BloomBars and tell them Gee James sent you!
BloomBars also won the 2013 The Washington City Paper’s “Best Of DC 2013” Reader’s Poll for “Best Arts and Culture Nonprofit!” What an honor!
Today, I’m thankful for the power of ART and for the lives uniting because of it. God bless.
The pics are great and immediately captured my attention upon seeing the new post email in my inbox. Great job! Adding to my list of places to visit …
