Review: ROOMS a rock romance (MetroStage)

ROOMS a rock romance – even after a decade, MetroStage brings it back with a vengeance.

The story of how Monica, the artistic and young songwriter and singer, and the smooth and carefree rocker, Ian, (the play’s only two actors) have their worlds intertwined in music and romance will have you laughing, sighing and of course, tapping your feet! Set in Glasgow in the 1970s, the two meet, create beautiful music and allow their aspirations to take them on a ride to London and ultimately to New York City.

Veterans Candice Shedd-Thompson (Monica) and Matthew Schleigh (Ian) are wonderful and have a fluid performance from start to beginning. Each have solo pieces where they get to bring life to the stage in their own way. Of course, when the combo performs together, the magic is even more captivating. Such an esteemed play is sometimes frightening to actors, but the duo show up and seem to leave their hearts, and voices… on stage.

Be prepared to an emotional rollercoaster that ends with laughter and joy. This is a must see!

See Rooms: A Rock Romance at MetroStage (1201 N. Royal Street, Alexandria, VA) through November 11, 2018. Directed by Thomas W. Jones II, with Matthew Schleigh and Candice Shedd-Thompson. Music Direction by Matthew Stephens and set design by Carl Gudenius. For tickets, go online or call the box office at 703-548-9044.
